The small principality of Liechtenstein is tucked in between the Swiss and Austrian Alps along the Rhine valley. The country with a population of just 32,000 inhabitants has over 80,000 registered companies - try to work that one out! Clue: Income Tax in Leichtenstein is only 1.2% - so a bit of a monetary haven.
Liechtenstein is an exception to the rule as a country, as its height almost exceeds its length or width! This makes it the perfect destination for mountaineering and hiking fans.
On a nice sunny morning in June 2002, Michael and myself, set off to do some serious hiking - in Malbun (a small village at 1602m, high above the capital city of Vaduz). We soon realised that the mountain weather wasn't very accomodating. It might have been better, had we stayed in the sunny valley and toured the Royal Castle.
