The small principality of Liechtenstein is tucked in between the Swiss and Austrian Alps along the Rhine valley. The country with a population of just 32,000 inhabitants has over 80,000 registered companies - try to work that one out! Clue: Income Tax in Leichtenstein is only 1.2% - so a bit of a monetary haven.
Liechtenstein is an exception to the rule as a country, as its height almost exceeds its length or width! This makes it the perfect destination for mountaineering and hiking fans.
On an extremely hot Saturday in June 2002, Bernd, Thorsten and myself, set off early in the morning to do some serious hiking - in Malbun (a small village at 1602m, high above the capital city of Vaduz). The goal was to conquer Mt.Naafkopf (2570m) where Liechtenstein borders Austria and Switzerland.
The way was much hotter than forecasted - making it even more challenging - as the radiation from the sun was extremely high at these heights!
