| The Achensee (or Lake Achen) in Tirol, Austria is one of those secret idyllic Alpine settings, less than 90 minutes from Munich. There are so many mountain peaks to choose from in this region, all offering superb views of the lake and its surroundings from all angles. Mt. Juifen proved to be quite a feat on this day, as we sunk knee deep in snow trying to conquer the summit at the beginning of May 2003. We had to turn back and go to an alternative summit as the cavities in the snow were getting dangerous - you just disappear to your waist all of a sudden.
