Mt. Seekar & Mt. Seeberg, Achensee, Austria - May 2003

The Achensee (or Lake Achen) in Tirol, Austria is one of those secret idyllic Alpine settings, less than 90 minutes from Munich. There are so many mountain peaks to choose from in this region, all offering superb views of the lake and its surroundings from all angles.

Michael and myself took the opportunity to get away from it all, by climbing two of the many spectacular mountain peaks overlooking the lake, namely Mt. Seekar (2053m) and Mt. Seeberg (2085m) on a fine day at the end of May 2003.

The weather was perfect, although quite warm and humid. It was one of those days that demonstrated to us, just how quickly the weather in the mountains can change.

The dark clouds forming over the neighboring mountain range only became apparent when we reached the top, and after hearing the first crack of lightning - we started a mad race down the mountain - pelted by the hail and rain that followed suit.
