The Achensee (or Lake Achen) in Tirol, Austria is one of those secret idyllic Alpine settings, less than 90 minutes from Munich. There are so many mountain peaks to choose from in this region, all offering superb views of the lake and its surroundings from all angles.
On a fine sunny day at the beginning of June 2003, I took the opportunity to climb up to Mt. Rofan (2259m) and Mt. Rosskopf (2246m) in the Rofan mountain range.
The mountains were deserted, as Germans and Austrians prefer spending such days close to water - making it all the more wothwhile for me. Click on the photos to see how I got on...
