The Hohe Tauern National Park is Europe's largest national park. It is shared between the Austrian provinces of Carinthia (Kaernten), Salzburg and Tirol. The park contains Austria's highest peak (the Grossglockner), Austria's highest waterfall, the longest Glacier in the eastern Alps as well as a wealth of flora and fauna. The park has over 300 mountains that exceed 3000m! Here you'll find a selection of photos taken in the northern part of the Hohe Tauern National Park (above 2000m) on a nice Indian summer's day in October 2001. The lake(s) shown in the photos are part of a complex series of Alpine Reservoirs used for multi-stage hydro-electric power generation - quite an engineering feat in the mountains.
